Overview

Project JOV is a high-level investigative platform built for a documentary film about the assassination of the President of Haiti. We developed a tool to synthesize 10,000+ unstructured documents—including call logs and legal proceedings—into an interactive research ecosystem.

Problem

Investigative teams faced an overwhelming archive of disconnected documents. Manually identifying hidden relationships between suspects, phone records, and international proceedings was impossible within production timelines. The project required a tool to visualize these connections while maintaining direct links to source evidence.

Objective

To empower the research team, we aimed to:

Map all major relationships within a 10,000+ document corpus.
Interconnect disparate data points like call logs and court transcripts.
Provide an interactive interface to explore person-to-person links.
Build a search system combining semantic meaning with relational logic.

What We Did

Data Ingestion:

We built a pipeline to parse 10,000+ documents using OCR to extract key entities.

Hybrid GraphRAG:

We implemented a Neo4j backbone with Vector Database features. This allowed queries to understand both meaning and connection (e.g., "Find all associates of Person X in call logs").

Visualization Tool:

We developed a custom web interface hosted on Vercel. It allows researchers to visualize degrees of separation and communication patterns, turning a flat archive into a navigable social graph.

Results

A research team received a production-ready tool for the documentary’s research.
